board grip or wax

Postby elijaramon » Mon Oct 11, 2010 10:38 am

hello everyone at LTS,

I am new to kitesurfing and have opted against popular practice to ride strapless at the spots near me. As noone else rides strapless I have very little feedback on things and its great I have discovered you guys!

First thing is that I am waiting for a new surfboard, its 6'3" x 19" x 2 1/3", thruster set up with swallow tail. I am wondering whether I should stick deck grip to 2/3 of it or whether I should only stick the deck grip over the fins and wax the rest of the deck?

Personally I use wax and a standard deck pad on the tail.

I find though the wax needs to be maintained after every session. Do others agree? If I don't wax before each session, I just can't grip the board well enough.

The age old wax or pad debate... Personally, pads make the board feel disconnected. As well, you will get a wicked rash if you try and surf it. Dont get bogged down in the "legit" argument. Try the board with wax, if you hate it, strip it off and pad it up.
