fixed/two line kites?

This is the place to talk about riding styles, tricks, conditions, what works, what doesn't on your skimboard. Wondering about what skimboard to get for kiting? Post it all here.

fixed/two line kites?

Postby biggins » Sun Jun 27, 2010 11:16 am

Hi,

Sounds weird, but anyone using fixed or two line kites...ie no depower? I think I saw a guy in the gorge using a fixed with a skim and it allowed him to easily redirect the kite on jumps and not have to pull in with the one hand, but I'd imagine it'd be a biatch trying to edge against the kite in gusts!

I know tophat uses one, but with a surfboard having big fins I'd imagine it helps to edge. anyone tried it w/skim?

thanks,

j

Hi biggins, I'm using a pulley bar half of the time with skim & surfboard. It's a sissy kind of pulley bar, because it has a limited amount of depower if you push the bar out, see pic. I found flying a pulley bar is not really a problem in normal wind conditions (say 15 to 20kn, not too gusty) because you trim the kite for less power (AoA) and more speed, and you keep it moving all the time. It is a very smooth kind of power. I'm flying C-shape kites, so I'm used to not having the on-off power of flatter kites. Worth a try, see if you like the feeling of it.
