Notice of Event Bimini Winds - POSTPONED

Postby Lonny » Tue Aug 26, 2008 6:28 pm

- The first annual Bimni Winds has just been annouced :!: This event is going to happen this November in the Bahamas, and is sure to be one of the all time coolest events ever. For those of you who do not know about Bimini or the Bahama chain of islands they really are a kiteboarding paradise. In November we should have beautiful temperatures in the 70s and good wind from 15 mph up. Plus, there is endless flat, warm, shallow water perfect for all the strapless riding you can handle. I have also been informed from the event director, Kent Marinkovic, that there is going to be big prize money, including money going to the top strapless rider! More details to follow. The whole LTS crew will be heading down to attend the event, and it should really be a fabulous time for kiters and non-kiters alike. If you have questions please post it here and we can get more details. Here is some information as it stands:

The Fountain of Youth, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Earnest Hemingway come together as the World’s Best Kitesurfers Battle the Forces of the Bermuda Triangle in their quest to win Kitesurfing's Golden Crown!

Bimini, Bahamas, November 12-16, 2008: The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism Teams with Bimini Bay and Adventure Sports Miami to present “THE BIMINI WINDS”, Kitesurfing’s Newest and Most Adventurous Event!

Bimini is a small island jewel floating on the eastern edge of the Gulf Stream. It’s the famed sport fishing capital of the world, rumored to be the location of the Fountain of Youth, the inspiration for Hemingway’s “Islands in the Stream”, and lays smack in the middle of the mysterious Bermuda Triangle. Brought into the kiteboarding scene during the 2005 Bahamas Crossing, where 16 two man teams battled the elements during an exciting race from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Bimini, Bimini is an island for the adventurer.

Whether you’re looking to compete, free ride, learn, or just watch the most colorful and exhilarating sport in the world, Bimini Bay is the place to be November 12th – 16th of 2008. Kitesurfers from all over the world will be traveling to the tiny island just off Florida’s Coast to compete for $8,000 dollars prize money. Challenging obstacles called Kickers and Sliders will be placed in the shallow, clear waters of Bimini Bay for top competitors to utilize in hopes of winning the judges eye. Others will be racing at speeds in excess of 40 miles per hour powered only by the warm Bahamian winds. They will be stacked side by side when rounding the marks and charging for the finish line. Spectacular crashes and big jumps are the reward for spectators, while prize money and glory reward the victors.

The kite addicted, traveling with families and friends need not worry. Non-kiters can enjoy the best off shore and near shore fishing in the world. Take a dive with wild dolphins, kayak or Stand Up Paddle to a desolate beach, or relax at the infinity pool while knocking back a Mojito, it’s all good. Everyone will enjoy nightly video shows, bonfires, and even a pirate costume party. Those wanting to learn to kite will have 4 of the best schools in the world to choose from. Book lessons in advance and learn to kitesurf in the warm, shallow waters of Bimini Bay!

Re: Notice of Event Bimini Winds - POSTPONED

Just received this email from Kent. :(

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Kent Marinkovic, Adventure Sports, Inc. 305-591-3922

October 1st. 2008, Adventure Sports Miami announces the postponement of the 2008 BIMINI WINDS.

It is with deep regret that we announce the postponement of the 2008 BIMINI WINDS event in the Bahamas. After a year of planning and promotion of the 2008 BIMINI WINDS, slow registration combined with a lack of industry participation necessitates the postponement of what promises to become the sports premier event.

“The support of Bimini Bay and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism has been outstanding, but in an effort to exceed their expectations for the greatest sport in the world, the decision has been made to postpone this event until we can acquire the proper mix of participation and value for these great sponsors. Too many times I have seen excellent sponsor relationships ruined by results that were not as expected. I have the deepest appreciation for the Bahamas and I’m disappointed I won’t be sharing my unique Bahamas experiences with my kitesurfing friends from around the world this November.” - Kent Marinkovic.

The promoters of the BIMINI WINDS sincerely thank Dakine, Bimini Bay, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, the Pryde Group of companies, and of course Neil Hutchinson of X-rated Kiteboarding for their early support of this event.

Registrants of the BIMINI WINDS will have fees refunded immediately. For those the have made reservations with Bimini Bay and Bimini Island Air, we will gladly make arrangements to have Bimini tickets refunded and resort deposits returned. Those that made independent travel arrangements and need assistance to change their plans, please contact Kent Marinkovic at 305-591-3922. Please accept our sincerest apologies for this inconvenience.

Kind regards,

Kent Marinkovic
