Thanks man...appreciate it. I've been playing with the program tying to lay the board out and for some reason the width looks pinched in the middle when I look at it from the bay view. Glad I've got a solid file to fall back on.

Yeah, thank you for the amazing build. I actually started building My Mako strip cedar kiteboard late fall last year. I just finished putting the gloss coat last night using a water base polyurethane to protect the epoxy from UV.

Hi there, a couple guys PM'd me requesting the Mako file for AKUshaper. Unfortunately I have to say it's lost... forever... corrupted when my HD snuffed it.

If you want to make your own, here's a hint:
-outline is done easily with a good pic
-rocker is done the same with a good pic
-the concave is a bit tricky: its curvature is supposed to be of a constant radius throughout the board. Look a the concave as the arc of a circle, when you look at the board from tip to end. The circle is to be of the same radius throughout the board.

I found it easiest to make a paper model of middle slice and end slice, take measurements and make sure the AKU shaper slices are right.

hi decxter, the ply I used is 3mm ply of a light kind. It's not the sturdy and heavy water resistant stuff. Don't know what the wood is they used, but it looks reddish and could be cedar or some african light wood. Just the bulk basic light weight 3mm 3ply from your store.

I'd pretty much given-up on this thread looking at the dates of the posts.

I'm TRYING to build a Mako for my wife following Tungsten's techniques. This is what I have so far. Tons of questions for anybody out there that has done the same.

Waiting for the second set of strips to dry now...

Pretty much followed everything Tungsten did. Awesome build thread by the way...using cedar for the first frame and 1/8 inch door skin for the deck. Don't know about inserts and fins and rails and lots of other suff yet...ways to go still.

I built a Mako Wide using 5 layers of 1,5mm thick veneers of Abache and one layer of 0,5mm red cedar. I vacuum formed it onto a rocker form i made from "tortured into shape" 4mm MDF.

its a really good board and i´ll never sell it.

Did you glue the layers together in one pressing? What type of glue did you use? The white rail, what did you use? Did you fiber glass?

Against all odds, I found a valid copy of the MAKO Akushaper file on a memory stick I had long forgotten! So if you are still interested in it, shoot me a PM with your email and I will send it to you.

I glued them together by v-bagging it all down onto a form i made. with a one sided v-bag. All in one go. Used regular epoxy.
Once the blank was done, i cut out the outline and thought the rail was too thick. So i used a router and thinned down the rail on the deck side.
Then i glassed it all with two layers 155g on the bottom and one on the top. let the glass meet at the rail. v-bagged it in a full bag in one go so glass would bond at rail- Then i cut -sanded down the edge, but left the glass intact on the edge.
Not production durability but its still going strong...

I couldn't have made this board without your help.
My board is made the same way as tungsten built his expect instead of plywood I used 3mm strips of cedar cut out a 2x6 cedar deck board.
I also build a wooden handle out my scrap strips epoxied together and my fins I made out of 1/4 aluminium .
I have to wait for the lakes to thaw before I can test it.
Yes I have straps on it, but plan to try it without straps eventually.
