Thinking about tinkering around with building a new strapless toy? Have some feedback about construction, materials, rocker line? Post it here.

My skim

Postby Jazzz » Tue Jun 02, 2009 4:10 am

Hi!
here is my project. it's a copy of Lonny's skim that first in "Skimboard Reviews" thread. tested a new foam tech =)) board is relatively light - 2kg (4.5 lbs) but have some weak points in design. broke it two times already))
anyway - the more i ride it the more i like it.

Hey Jazzz,

Welcome to Lose the Straps. Thank you for joining us here and posting pictures of your new project. Yeah, it definitely, looks like the outline of my board.

I like the grab rails. Glad you are enjoying your new board. If you broke it twice already I think that is a good sign that you are pushing it! The weight of your board is pretty light. What are the conditions like in Russia?

thanks guys)) well.. ehm.. about russia - at least here at baltic sea - not the perfect place for sure =) light wind gear is very useful.

for kiteskimmie strapless fans - there is only two of us here (afaik) who thinks that skim is not no-wind-on-shallow-water-thing.
as for stories - i'm out of pulling something new on TT cos hard landings are not good for me - broke my back this winter and there is still a lot of pain sometimes. so i thought that skim will be a good for recreation activity . well... in fact... completely addicted to strapless, crushing harder that sometimes on TT. donno what to do with all this. )))

and yes , "in deck" pads is coolest thing in this board except logo on bottom)) but is a main problem also - stiffness changes too fast on transition from pad to side and foam+glass just breaks. need to add some wood there on next board

bout i found my new love, my dearest minipsycho :D
made it with minimal rocker and two tiny convcaves between stringers. and yes! - it rides perfect =) a bit too stiff but i like it for flat conditions.

new one. red one )) not a skim actually.
aspen wood core. spleene zone shape. still got no proper fins (in production) - so rode it with one 7cm fin.
tried it strapless yesterday - very positive feeling. like it much more than strapped. also it's very relaxing to ride big board after ollied to death on skim =))
